Losing Altitude

Once the Proud of Pakistan and role model mentor in aviation Industry, Pakistan International Airlines is losing altitude for the past two decades

Pakistan International Airlines was created under the PIAC Act 1956 to carry out the purpose of connecting East Pakistan to West Pakistan along with initiating the international passenger and air cargo operations.

PIA remained a role model, worked as a mentor for other airlines like Emirates, Shaheen Air, Gulf Air, Singapore Airline and many others.

Achievements of PIA

The airline in early days acquired state of the art airliners like Boeing 707 for both passenger and cargo operations and labeled as a first Asian airline to do so. Not only that, PIA  selected top destinations like London and New York as long routes and become one of the world’s top airliners.

PIA was the only Asian freighter that time to freight cargo from Hong Kong to European countries and North America. PIA has also played a vital role in the development of Singapore airlines by giving them both technical and manpower support especially in flight operations.

Role in the development of Pakistan

PIA has played a vital role in development of many modern and main stream airliners in the Middle East region as well including Emirates in 1985 that has helped the country to strengthen relations with Middle Eastern countries.

PIA has played a vital in the development of the country too and some of the most brilliant projects were started by PIA such as, farming chicken in Pakistan, precision engineering, sponsoring and employing sportsman for the country.

Why losing altitude now?

It is one of the concerns that PIA has achieved all that when only few Pakistanis were in Europe and USA but now there are millions of Pakistanis in those countries and even cargo to Pakistan has increased considerably in previous years. Why they are losing altitude?

Now Pakistan is one of the world’s most populated countries with a population of over 200 million and more than 20 million settled overseas and visited Pakistan regularly. Why PIA in Loss then?

Major causes of nose down fall

According to the Pakistan’s economic experts and Pakistan Intelligentsia, the major cause of decline is the employee to aircraft ratio, it is highest in the world. Employees become burden on the airline and consuming around one third revenues of the airline.

Current Situation

Current government took the office back in 2013 and they removed PIA from Ministry of defense and created another Aviation Division headed by Shujaat Azeem to further kill the airlines.  His every action is to favour the Middle Eastern airlines and kill their own.

When he took the office, Middle Eastern airline had four weekly flights to Pakistan but now they have almost 10 daily. Pakistan International Airlines has currently removed its almost 150 destinations. So, it is very clear that where the legendary airliner losing altitude…
