Maersk Line Wins the Prestigious Guardian Sustainable Business Award

The sustainable shipping initiative, a pioneering alliance of cargo shipping industry across the globe and the Guardian has selected the Maersk as sustainable business in the shipping industry

 

Maersk Line is the founding member of the sustainable shipping initiative and has recognised at the prestigious Guardian Sustainable Business Award. Maersk has been selected for the award because of its state-of-the-art business operations model which has enabled Maersk to come up with innovation and deep insight in the shipping industry globally. It is only because of Maersk that the cargo shipping industry of the world is growing into a more robust, responsible yet profitable industry.

The Guardian’s internationally recognised prestigious awards programme is much respected among sustainability opinion leaders of the industry.

This award programme has a judging panel including some of the most dominant scholars from world’s best educational institutions and business schools such as Cambridge University, University College London and Greenpeace, to name a few. Apart from these institutes, several organisations like Friends of Earth, the International Institute for Environment and Development and The Rainforest Alliance are also part of the judging committee.

Chief Executive of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative said that Maersk is transporting 90 percent of the world’s cargo. Shipping is integral to the sustainability of world economy while it has direct relations with the customers wherever it operates in the world.

Maersk help the communities and individuals who choose the maritime industry as a career. However, Sustainable Shipping Initiative is improving the performance of how the alliance is operating to save the environment. The shipping alliance and Maersk help the stakeholders to enjoy the win-win grounds either socially or economically.

Global head of Sustainability at Maersk Line thinks that the operations of Maersk Line are very satisfactory. He said, “The nature of the sustainability challenges within our industry today command collaborative solutions.” In order to create meaningful and transformational change Maersk is looking to share best practices and learning experiences.

Maersk Line is a global container division and world’s largest container operating unit of the A.P Moller-Maersk Group. It is a Danish business group and having its customers in 116 countries. Maersk operates the world business operations with more than 376 offices across the globe.
